NWRA Recommends OSHA Exempt Medical Waste Employees from Proposed COVID Publicity Rule

NWRA Healthcare Waste Institute (HWI) filed feedback with the Occupational Security and Well being Administration (OSHA) urging the company to exempt medical waste staff from its proposed Occupational Publicity to COVID-19 in Healthcare Settings rule. In June 2021, OSHA printed an Emergency Non permanent Customary (ETS) for healthcare and healthcare help service staff. The unique ETS identifies medical waste dealing with providers as a part of healthcare help providers.

“HWI recommends that OSHA exempt medical waste administration staff from the rule’s necessities. In nearly no occasion will medical waste staff have extended, unprotected shut contact with healthcare staff or sufferers,” stated NWRA President and CEO Darrell Smith. “Exceptions must be made for these staff.”

NWRA appears to be like ahead to working with OSHA to develop an applicable rule that protects healthcare staff going through the best COVID-19 hazards.
